Donations Bequests and Gifts

Donations are always welcome, however, all should be aware that such gifts to our church, if made in trust, become the property of the United Church of Canada and St. David’s United Church may only use the interest accumulated from the investment of this money.

Direct Donations

If you wish to leave a bequest or gift to St. David’s United Church which can be used for everyday church work, the donation should state “for use in the ongoing current account of the church”. Donations may also be made as a Memorial Donation in memory of a loved one.

A cheque, Money Order or E-Transfer can be used and an income tax receipt will be mailed to you with our sincere thanks. For additional information and E-Transfers please contact us.

Pre-Authorized Remittance

PAR or Pre-Authorized Remittance is a direct debit program that allows people to support their church through an automatic monthly withdrawal from their bank account.  The United Church administers the program following the giver’s wishes (e.g. X amount for local church expenses, and X amount for the Mission and Service Fund, if you wish to contribute to both).  Approximately on the 20th of each month, all PAR givings are debited from the giver’s account and the total is electronically transferred to the local church account.  Thank you for supporting St. David’s PAR program. To enroll in the PAR program, please pick up a brochure at back of the church or contact:

Mission and Service Fund United Church of Canada

The Mission and Service Fund finances the ministry and mission of the United Church. It supports our worship life, and funds efforts promoting justice and peace, and advocating for environmental reforms. The M&S Fund enables the church to respond to human needs both in Canada and around the world with developmental work, medical aid, emergency relief, and many different kinds of community outreach and social programs. Any donations to St. David’s are forwarded on a quarterly basis to the United Church of Canada.

St. David’s United Columbarium

Due to the amount of rock here in Lake Echo, St. David’s was unable to have a graveyard on our property. Through the generosity of one of our original members, we were able to have our first columbarium erected in 2002. We have since added two more units, each holding eight niches, bringing the current total to 24 niches.
A Celebration of Life service, for members or adherents, would be held in the sanctuary or at the site, with a reception in our hall, if desired. We have a lovely garden with walkway leading up to the columbarium and a meditation bench for those who wish to come enjoy the peace and tranquility.
For more information on the columbarium, please feel free to contact the church.

Our Serving Minsters
Since 1953 the members of St. David’s United Church have had the pleasure of many incredible Students and Reverends.  We thank each and every one for their time, commitment and community leadership.

St. David's Untied Church Events

We are an active congregation and are involved in many aspects of community life including religious; charitable; community outreach; teaching; and social. We have a full calendar of annual events planned along with special events that may not be planned far in advance. Please contact us below or on our Facebook page for availability.

Church Hall Rental

The St. David’s United church hall is available to be used for birthday parties, bridal or baby showers, crafts, Bible Study, fitness classes, cooking classes, children’s activities, meetings and many other events.

The hall will hold 85 people and tables and tablecloths are available for use. You may bring in your own decorations to fit your event. The hall is equipped with a large kitchen, fridges, coffee/tea urns, and dishware.

Our hall is wheelchair accessible and we do have a no alcohol/no smoking policy. We do have a ‘no fault’ insurance form which will have to be completed when your booking is confirmed.

Church Family

St. David’s United Church is very welcoming and we invite those who are visiting the area; new arrivals to our communities; and local residents to join our congregation.

Our facility is wheelchair accessible and the church holds approximately 100.

We perform weddings, baptisms and funerals.

We have many special events during the year such as celebrating St. David’s Day, which explains the history of our namesake, the anniversary of the dedication of our church in October, monthly socials after church, Memorial Christmas Tree dedication, etc.

HISTORY OF ST. DAVID'S CHURCH, LAKE ECHO

Before 1953 there was no church in Lake Echo and anyone wanting to attend a United Church service would travel to Woodlawn or Port Wallace. Rev. J.D.N. MacDonald had contact with many families in the Lake Echo area and began sending students to conduct Sunday services in the Crooks' canteen, which was opposite the present Fire Hall.

In the early 1950's with Eric Fullerton (who was then a student at Pine Hill) and others, Rev. J.D.N. MacDonald organized construction of the original building on the property bought from Mr. Charles Fisher of Bell Street, Lake Echo. The Church opened in October 1953 and Sunday services were held regularly, often conducted by students or visiting Ordained Ministers.

Cole Harbour United was built to serve the growing population of east Dartmouth, and together with Calvin United Church in Lawrencetown, a long established Presbyterian congregation, these three Churches became one Pastoral Charge. One Minister served all three Churches until 1977.

At that time Rev. Bill Gillis lived in the Manse at Cole Harbour and travelled to Lake Echo and Lawrencetown, preaching three times each Sunday. Then Rev. Betty Griffiths came to help with the growing congregations and it was soon determined that Calvin and St. David's could stand as one Pastoral Charge, alone from Cole Harbour. Soon after, the Pastoral Charge amicably became two separate Charges.
Our Mission Statement

We are rooted in the worship tradition of the United Church of Canada. We strive to be a community in which we may be nurtured in faith as we explore the relevance of scripture for our life as Christians.

We have been called to serve God as a community seeking equality, diversity and inclusivity. Revelation and our call to service is made known to us through our interaction and daily living with one another in the world.

We are committed to a definitive role as leaders in our surrounding communities as well in our community of faith. Our goal is to share the Word of God to the communities in which we worship, live and work on behalf of the Lord.

Committed to a Christ-like love for the earth and all humanity, we strive for a stewardship that cares for and sustains all creation.
